The knives of the Yuri Series were designed by the women staff of Shizu-Hamono Co. Limited, in conjunction with Aiko Yamamoto, who is a product designer from Seki City in Japan. She started with the concept of developing knives that would fit comfortably in women’s hands and that were, in addition, eco-friendly products. The overall aim of the team was to create knives that can be used for everyday cooking without being too heavy and overbearing, while maintaining both the specifications and appearance of Japanese knives.

These knives are designed to be simple, easy to use, and stylish from a woman's point of view. The designs are based on traditional Japanese knives that have been used by women in Japan for centuries, such as Santoku (a versatile knife that is easy to use), Nakiri (a knife that is good for chopping vegetables), and Petit knife (a small knife suitable for cutting fruits). Simplicity, style, sharpness, and resistance to damage were the guiding principles.

One of the main features of the Yuri series is its lightness. The blade is made as thin as possible so that it can be cut with light force, reducing resistance when cutting food and allowing you to maneuver it with ease. The handle, which provides a warm, white-wood appearance, is actually made of "laminated reinforced" wood. It is easy to grip and has the functionality to withstand daily water exposure when cleaning.

The blade itself is made of triple-layered molybdenum-vanadium rust-resistant stainless steel on both sides for long-lasting sharpness. Another innovation can be found in the handle: with conventional knives, water tends to seep into the gap between the handle and the blade, which eventually leads to damage. The Yuri has a "mouthpiece" between the handle and blade to prevent water from entering. Therefore, the knife is fashioned to last longer. You will notice the detailed perspective of women designers shining through everywhere.

Yuri Santoku Kitchen Knife

A basic knife that can handle a wide range of foods such as meat, fish, and vegetables for everyday cooking. The blade is long and narrow, and it is designed to cut with less force than conventional knives. This makes it easy to rough-cut harder vegetables such as cabbage, which previously required a lot of force to cut.

This knife is very stable and easy to use for cutting large vegetables, for peeling smaller vegetables such as daikon radish, and for transferring food on the blade - such as diced tofu - from the cutting board to the pot.  earn about our latest pieces.

In Japan it has long been believed that the gift of a knife is a good omen for a good beginning or a happy occasion. Blades have always been used to celebrate new beginnings because they are thought of as something that "cuts off evil" and "opens up the future”. These knives are a perfect gift for important occasions or someone special. Each knife, wrapped in handmade rice paper, comes in a cedar box
